The artist; [?]; present owner

Sharp began painting landscapes in and around Crow Agency as early as 1906. Models were scarce, he said, so he supplemented his portrait work with views of the area. He was especially attracted to views of the site of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. This is one of those landscapes.

This appears to be a rather late view of the battlefield and it is especially distinctive because it contains no evidence of human presence. He generally incorporated teepees in such a vista, as seen in related work, Winter Camp on the Little Big Horn,  #356.
