The artist; [?]; John and Helen Murphey; present owner by bequest
This scene is thought to have been painted in about 1935. It includes a portrait of John Hunting Son among a stand of autumn aspens near the abandoned mining town of Twining, NM. It relates directly to another oil of about the same size and format, Aspens - Twining which dates ca. 1935. (related image, 630) which, in turn, is similar in handling to a larger work, Morning in the Aspen Forest, that was exhibited at the galleries of the Kreimer & Brother Co. in Cincinnati in 1935. (related image, 24)
In the Kreimer show there was a painting listed simply as Hunting Son. This may be that work.
