The artist; [?]; Elizabeth A. Malone, Estate; present owner by gift
Sharp seems to have especially enjoyed painting peonies. The first recorded exhibition of a still life with peonies was in 1935 at the Kreimer Brother Co. galleries in Cincinnati. About a half dozen such works are recorded in Sharp's sales ledgers in the following years. (Sharp Papers)
A painting of this title and size sold in 1944 for $600, with frame, to J. Allen Wickoff of Raton, New Mexico. Another similar work was sold to Charles E. Doll of Santa Fe in 1947. There are three known paintings of peonies this same size, so it is impossible to know which version any one of them is. (related image and 675)
